We get asked all the time for more information on certain products and the materials they are made from. We hope this guide answers some more of your questions. 

Material Information

STONEWARE

the clay consists of a higher quartz content and is fired at 1160-1180°C for roughly 7-8 hours. This makes the stoneware durable. Depending on the placement of the product in the kiln, the colour of each product will vary making it unique.

REACTIVE GLAZE

the clay is often made of stoneware and fired at roughly 1000°C for 6-8 hours. The product is then soaked in a glaze mix which is fired at 1230°C for roughly 5-7 hours. Depending on the placement of the product in the kiln, the actual colour of the glaze will vary for each product making it unique. Due to the high temperatures the actual shape of the products may also vary.

DOLOMITE

is a white clay which is slightly more porous than the one used for stoneware. Due to its porous nature, it is easier to decide the actual colour of the glazes. The clay is fired in a kiln at 1050-1080°C for roughly 6 hours. Thereafter it is soaked in a glaze either by hand or a machine. The product is then fired in the kiln for another 7 hours.

TERRACOTTA

is a clay-based unglazed ceramic, where the fired body is porous. Actual colours may vary depending on the amount of iron oxide in the clay. The different colours of terracotta are red, brown or yellow.

CONCRETE

is a composite material composed of fine and coarse aggregate bonded together with a fluid cement (cement paste) that hardens over time. Silicone is then used to ensure that the products are waterproof.

FIBREGLASS

is a common type of fiber-reinforced plastic using glass fibre. It is durable, waterproof, lightweight and can be molded into complex shapes.

FIBRECLAY

is a mixture of concrete and fiberglass mesh. The product is lighter than concrete. The drying time is a few days longer than concrete.

GLASS

during the creation of glass, silicon dioxide or quartz is used. The temperature reaches approximately 1500°C during firing. The majority of our glass is mouthblown, which means blowing molten glass into a mold. This operation is performed with the aid of a hollow metal tube that has a mouthpiece at one end. Due to our glass being mouth-blown and shaped by hand, shapes and patterns may vary. The glass can be tinted or sprayed, which means that a colour is spay painted on the glass, this type of glass cannot withstand too hot water and that it cannot be washed in a dishwasher.

RECYCLED WOOD

small cracks, nail holes, colour variations and other irregularities may occur but will give each product its own character making every product unique. Some natural changes may occur due to climate differences. This is natural and will not affect the durability of the furniture.

POLYRESIN

is a ceramic and stone-like plastic material. It is more durable than ceramics and is well suited for casting figurines. Polyresin is not a frost-resistant material.

ALUMINIUM

is a soft light metal that is well suited for casting figurines, candlesticks, bowls, etc. Cast aluminum products should be handled carefully as they easily crack if dropped.

IRON

is a metal produced from iron-stone. It can be shaped by machine or by hand. Products made of iron will rust over time when in contact with water.

Please Note:

Ceramic, concrete and glass products are mainly made by hand why variations in colour and appearance may occur.

Our ceramic pots and vases are water resistant though we cannot guarantee that they are 100% waterproof since there may be small air bubbles or cracks in the glaze.

Products made of ceramic or glass may give off condensation which is not to be mistaken for leakage.

Tensions can occur in glass products, which is why these should always be handled carefully.

Keep in mind that our metal and metal garden furniture cannot withstand frost.

Candles/Candleholders/Lanterns holders:

Always use a fireproof base for the product. Check that there are no flammable materials nearby. Burn only tea-lights, candles or oil candles intended for the size of the product. Check that the burning candle does not heat up the glass product. Never leave a burning candle holder/lantern unattended. Never leave lanterns within reach of children and pets. Do not move the candle holder/lantern when the candle is burning. Extinguish the candle by suffocating the flame.
