Choosing the right dining table
The dining table sets the rhythm of the room, so size and shape matter as much as style. As a rule of thumb, allow 60cm of width per person along each side. A 180cm rectangular table seats six comfortably; a 200cm seats six with elbow room or eight at a push; round tables suit smaller rooms and create a more sociable atmosphere — a 120cm round comfortably seats four, a 150cm round seats six. Leave at least 90cm of clear space behind each chair so people can sit down and stand up without bumping the wall.
