In a living room, choose a rug large enough that the front legs of every sofa and chair sit on it. In a dining room, the rug should extend at least 60cm beyond the edge of the table on every side so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. In a bedroom, a rug either side of the bed or one large rug underneath that extends 60cm beyond the frame works beautifully.
