The Castine brings a chandelier silhouette that traces directly back to mid-century European lighting design — six slim brass arms radiating horizontally from a central hub, each finishing in an upward-tilted UFO-form opal glass shade. The form has its roots in the work of post-war Italian and French designers — Stilnovo, Sarfatti, Lumi — who pioneered the sputnik chandelier as something both functional and sculptural. The Castine carries that vocabulary forward in warm aged brass and milk-white glass: the brass is matte and slightly burnished rather than polished, the glass is opaque and softly frosted rather than clear. The whole fixture reads as a single object suspended in space rather than a busy collection of bulbs.

The decision that defines how the Castine actually lights a room is the angle of the shades — each one tilts upward rather than downward, so the light cast by all six bulbs at once travels up to the ceiling first and then washes back down across the room in a soft, even, diffused glow.
