Will it fit? At only 41cm deep, it's shallower than most chests, so it suits a bedroom wall or hallway. Allow around 150cm of wall and 90cm of clear floor in front for the drawers.

Reclaimed old fir, with plywood in the construction for stability. The grain is deeper and the tone richer than new timber, with natural knots and marks of age, so no two are the same.

A pale washed finish lets that character show while keeping the look light. Antique-style metal ring pulls nod to traditional farmhouse ironmongery.

Cleaning. Dust along the grain with a soft dry cloth, and wipe spills at once with a barely damp cloth. Avoid silicone polishes and all-purpose sprays.

Everyday use. Use mats and coasters, especially under bottles and jars. Keep it away from radiators and prolonged direct sun.

What to expect. Fir is a softwood, so it marks more readily than oak, and a pale finish shows water marks more than a dark one. Grain and tone vary from piece to piece.

Hang a mirror 20cm to 25cm above the top to create a dressing table, with a lamp in warm light at one end and a vase at the other.

Warm the pale fir with linen, rattan and a jute rug underfoot. It's especially lovely in a smaller or darker bedroom, where it reflects the light.

Is the wood genuinely reclaimed?

Yes, reclaimed old fir given a second life, with plywood used in the construction.

Will it look exactly like the photograph?

No. Grain, tone and knots vary, so yours will be individual in its detail.

Can I use it as a dressing table?

Yes. At 81cm high, it's a comfortable height with room for a mirror above.

Will a pale finish suit a dark room?

Yes. It reflects more light than dark reclaimed timber, so it keeps a smaller room feeling open.
