A full, generous hydrangea head in deep merlot red, the shade of mulled wine and velvet ribbon. On its own in a bud vase it is quietly dramatic. Gathered into a jug with pine and eucalyptus, it carries a Christmas arrangement beautifully, and it will look just as rich next winter.
Will it fit? As a guide, a stem looks best at around one and a half to two times the height of its vase, so a vase of roughly 25 to 30cm suits it well. Trim nothing: simply angle it to sit lower or higher.
A densely layered hydrangea head with deep merlot petals and soft natural variation in tone, on a slim stem that sits easily in a vase or arrangement.
The colour is the point: rich enough to feel festive, deep enough to stay elegant, so it moves from Christmas into the darker winter months without looking out of season.
No water and no wilting. Dust gently with a soft brush, or use a hairdryer on a cool setting. Gently tease the petals open when it arrives to bring back the fullness.
Honest expectations: keep it out of strong direct sunlight to protect the depth of colour. Stored in a box between seasons, it will look just as good year after year.
Try three stems together in a stoneware jug for a full, generous look, or a single bloom in a bud vase on a bedside or windowsill. Deep red sits beautifully against creamy white vases and warm terracotta.
For Christmas, mix it with pine, eucalyptus and berry sprays from our faux stems, or lay it among a garland on the dining table. See the full Christmas collection for more.
In-stock pieces are delivered in 2 working days. Last orders for Christmas delivery are 21 December. See our delivery information for charges and our returns policy for peace of mind.
How many stems do I need?
One makes a statement in a bud vase. Three give a full, abundant look in a jug or wider vase.
Is it only for Christmas?
Not at all. The deep merlot colour works right through autumn and winter, and looks beautiful in darker, moodier rooms all year.
Will it look real?
The layered petals and natural variation in colour make it very lifelike, even up close.
Can I mix it with fresh flowers?
Yes, but keep the stem out of the water so it stays at its best.
