Hand-carved spindle legs on reclaimed pine, with two drawers and a lower shelf.
A long reclaimed pine console table with turned spindle uprights and a distressed weathered finish.
Reclaimed timber is common. Hand-carved spindle legs on reclaimed timber are not, and that is the reason to choose this one. See the full console tables and sideboards range.
The Ashton does not try to look like it has a story. It already has one.
Made for
Everything you need, one tap away.
The measurements, and the wall you need
Reclaimed pine, with two drawers and a full-length open shelf below.
Allow at least 20cm of clear space at each end, so it does not look wedged in.
The height sits above most sofa backs, which makes it a good candidate for floating behind seating in an open plan room rather than only against a wall.
The depth is useful without being awkward. Deep enough for real drawers, shallow enough for a hallway. Allow 90cm of clear floor in front so the drawers open comfortably.
Access matters at this width. Two metres passes through a standard front door on its side, but tight hallway corners and stairwell turns are the usual pinch points. Measure your route first and tell us if anything looks close.
The detail that makes it different
The legs, in a category where most pieces settle for straight timber and a rustic coat of paint.
Turned spindle uprights, carved rather than machined flat. It is the detail that rewards a closer look, and the reason this reads as farmhouse craftsmanship rather than farmhouse styling.
Then the wood. Every piece carries the marks, knots, nail holes and saw scores of timber that has already lived a life, and those are the record of that first life rather than defects. No two Ashtons are the same.
The distressed finish is applied by hand, so depth and tone vary across every piece and between pieces. It settles and deepens with use rather than wearing thin, which makes this one of the few pieces of furniture that genuinely improves across the years you own it.
Sustainably sourced reclaimed pine, given a second life rather than milled new.
Why you will love it
- Hand-carved spindle legs, rare on a reclaimed timber console
- Reclaimed pine with knots, nail marks and grain no new wood can replicate
- Two drawers that swallow the everyday clutter and keep the top clear
- A full-length open shelf for baskets, books or a trailing plant
- Distressed finish that deepens with use rather than wearing thin
- Long enough to hold a wall with quiet authority
- Sits above most sofa backs, so it works as a room divider
- Entirely unique, since no two pieces of reclaimed timber are alike
Storage that disappears into the design
Two spacious drawers glide smoothly and take the everyday clutter: keys, post, remotes, sunglasses, the things that collect on a hallway surface and ruin it. The top above them stays clear for styling.
The lower open shelf adds a second tier without closing the piece in. A woven basket, a trailing plant, a stack of books, or simply left empty so the spindle legs stay visible. The shelf is fixed as part of the frame rather than an add-on.
That combination is what makes it work in a hallway specifically. Closed storage for the mess, open storage for the things worth seeing.
How our stylists would use it
A tall element at one end, a low grouping in the middle, negative space at the other. Strict symmetry on a console this long tends to look staged.
A table lamp or a tall stem in a vase gives the eye somewhere to start. Aim for something roughly half the console height again.
A large mirror or a piece of art anchors the console to the wall. Hang it so the bottom edge sits 20cm to 25cm above the tabletop.
Two baskets at either end, or one and a plant, is plenty. A packed lower shelf loses the spindle legs entirely, which are the reason you bought it.
Reclaimed pine is warm and matt by nature and wants a warm neutral behind it. Against a cool grey or a high-gloss scheme it looks stranded. Soft white, oatmeal, clay and mushroom all let the timber lead.
A runner from our rugs range under a hallway console stops the space feeling hard and echoey.
At a glance
Care and honest expectations
Dust with a dry soft cloth and wipe spills straight away rather than letting them sit. Reclaimed timber is more absorbent than a lacquered new-wood surface.
Avoid silicone polishes, all-purpose sprays and anything abrasive. They will lift the distressed finish unevenly.
Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from a radiator. Dry heat and solid timber are a poor combination over years.
What to expect. Reclaimed pine moves slightly with the seasons and the finish continues to develop. Small marks accumulate and add to a piece like this rather than detracting from it. If you want a surface that stays exactly as it arrived, reclaimed timber is the wrong choice.
