Will it fit? It needs a surface at least 30cm deep. At 5kg, check that a floating shelf or lightweight console can take the weight.

Terracotta with a hand-applied antiqued weathered finish, full of texture, tonal variation and patina, so it looks aged rather than new.

The twin handles are formed with the body in the Mediterranean amphora tradition. Tone and texture vary from piece to piece, and small irregularities are part of its character.

Not watertight. Terracotta is porous, so for fresh flowers or plants, place a waterproof vessel or nursery pot with a saucer inside.

Cleaning. Wipe with a dry cloth only. Avoid water, sprays and abrasives, which lift the antiqued finish.

Handling. Lift with two hands around the body rather than by the handles, and add a felt pad on polished timber or marble. Keep it indoors, as frost can crack terracotta.

Leave it empty as a sculptural piece, or fill it with dried grasses, pampas or faux stems about one and a half times its height. Place it at one end of a console, balanced with a lamp, or beside a stone or brick fireplace.

Terracotta and faux olive is the classic Mediterranean pairing. It loves warm neutrals, and a deep olive or charcoal wall.

Can I put water in it?

No. Terracotta is porous, so place a waterproof vessel inside for fresh flowers.

Does it come in other sizes?

Yes, there's a taller version. The two look beautiful together.

Can I plant into it?

Not directly. Use it as a cover for a plant in its nursery pot, with a saucer underneath.

Can it go outside?

We wouldn't recommend it, as trapped moisture can crack terracotta in a frost.
