Will it fit? Allow at least 236cm of clear wall, ideally 260cm, so it has breathing space at either end. At 45cm deep it holds a long wall without eating into the room, and at 89.5cm it sits above most sofa backs. Please measure doorways, stairs and tight turns on the way in. At 117kg, two people are needed to position it.

Made from solid acacia, a dense hardwood that is notably more resistant to scratches and everyday wear than pine. The walnut brown finish deepens the natural tones and draws out the flowing grain rather than hiding it.

Grain, figuring and tone vary from plank to plank, so no two Winslow consoles are identical. That variation is the mark of genuine solid timber.

Dust along the grain with a soft, dry cloth, wipe spills promptly and use mats and coasters under anything hot or wet. A clear furniture wax once or twice a year nourishes the timber. Avoid silicone polishes and all-purpose sprays.

Keep it away from radiators and prolonged direct sunlight. Acacia is hardwearing, but no timber is scratch-proof. It develops a warm patina with use, and small marks settle into it rather than standing out.

Style in three groups rather than spacing things evenly: a lamp at one end, ceramics and foliage at varying heights in the middle, books at the other. A pair of matching lamps at either end frames the length beautifully. Hang a large mirror or a run of art so the bottom edge sits 20cm to 25cm above the top.

Walnut brown loves soft white, oatmeal, deep olive and charcoal walls, with linen, rattan, aged brass and dark stoneware. Finish with a tray, a vase or a long runner from our rugs collection.

Is it solid wood or veneer?

Solid acacia throughout, so the grain runs through the piece and it can be refinished in years to come if it ever needs it.

Can it go behind a sofa?

Yes, as long as your sofa back sits below 89.5cm. In an open-plan room it is a lovely way to define a seating area.

Will mine look exactly like the photographs?

Very close, but grain and tone differ from piece to piece, as you would expect from genuine solid timber.

Will it scratch?
