At 236cm, this console does not occupy a wall. It owns it.

Solid acacia, a rich walnut brown finish and 236cm of striking natural grain.

Acacia is one of furniture making's most prized hardwoods. Naturally dense, highly resistant to wear and scratching, with a flowing characterful grain that makes every piece subtly different from the last. Darker and richer than reclaimed pine, more characterful than walnut veneer. Browse all console tables and sideboards.

Stylist's note

Solid wood that rewards close inspection, and looks better after a few years of living with it.

The detail that makes it different

Acacia's natural density is what makes it worth specifying over softer alternatives.

It is significantly more scratch and wear resistant than pine, which matters a great deal on a surface that will take keys, post, lamps and daily life. Acacia is the timber used for chopping boards and outdoor furniture for exactly that reason, and on a console it means the piece stays looking well rather than accumulating dents.

Then the grain. The natural variation in colour and figuring across each plank gives the Winslow's surface a depth and visual interest that manufactured boards and veneered alternatives simply cannot replicate. The walnut brown finish enhances that variation rather than concealing it, drawing out the grain and creating a surface that catches light differently through the day.

No two Winslow tables are identical, and the piece develops a warm patina over time rather than showing wear. It gets better rather than worse with use, which is the whole argument for solid timber over anything cheaper.

236cm
A genuinely grand scale. This is one of the largest console tables in the collection, made for wide hallways, behind long sofas, or anchoring a dining room wall with real presence.
Why you will love it
  • Solid acacia hardwood, dense and genuinely hardwearing rather than veneered over board
  • Notably more scratch resistant than pine, which matters on a surface in daily use
  • 236cm of presence, one of the largest consoles we stock
  • Rich walnut brown finish that draws the grain out rather than covering it
  • Only 45cm deep, so it holds a long wall without eating into the room
  • 89.5cm height, comfortable as a serving surface and above most sofa backs
  • Warm mid-brown tone that coordinates with linen, rattan, ceramic and natural wood
  • Develops a patina rather than showing wear
  • Genuinely unique, since grain and figuring differ across every plank
Size and placement
The Winslow
W236cm/D45cm/H89.5cm

Weighing 117kg. Allow 236cm of clear wall as an absolute minimum and ideally 260cm so the piece has breathing space at either end. In a hallway, keep at least 90cm of walking room in front. At 89.5cm it sits above most sofa backs, which is what makes it work floating behind seating in an open plan room.

Best for

Wide hallways, behind long sofas, and dining room walls that need real presence.

Measure the route in, not just the room. At 236cm and 117kg this cannot be manoeuvred around an obstacle the way a lighter piece can. Check doorways, hallway width, stairwells and any tight turns. Two people are strongly recommended for positioning once it is inside.

Tell us your access route before ordering and we will work it through with you. On a piece this size we would far rather do that beforehand.

How our stylists would dress it
Work in three groups

On 236cm, spreading objects evenly reads as arranged rather than considered. A lamp at one end, a cluster of ceramics and foliage in the middle at varying heights, a stack of books at the other, with clear space between each.

Lighting

A pair of matching table lamps at either end is the single most effective thing you can do with a console this long. It frames the piece and gives you low warm light in the evening. Warm bulbs of 2400K to 2700K, as cool light flattens a walnut finish and makes it read grey.

The palette that flatters it

Walnut brown is a deeper, richer tone than most of our timbers, so it can take more contrast. Soft white, oatmeal and putty let it lead. Against a deep olive, sage or charcoal wall it looks genuinely expensive. Avoid cool grey, which fights the warm undertone.

Texture and contrast

The warm walnut tone coordinates naturally with linen, rattan, ceramic and natural wood accessories. Aged brass, dark glazed stoneware and a wool or jute rug underfoot give the contrast that stops a neutral room reading flat.

Above it

A large mirror or a run of artwork anchors the console to the wall. Hang so the bottom edge sits 20cm to 25cm above the tabletop.

Where it works
A wide hallway

The most obvious home, and the one where 236cm genuinely pays. Dress it with a statement mirror and botanicals and the entrance to the house does the work the rest of the hall cannot.

Behind a long sofa

At 89.5cm it clears most sofa backs, giving you a surface for lamps and accessories and defining a seating zone in an open plan room where there are no walls to do it.

A dining room wall

As a serving surface at a comfortable height, and a display piece the rest of the year. The walnut tone complements rather than competes with a wooden dining table.

A bedroom

At 45cm deep it makes a generous dressing table along a long wall, with a mirror above.

Materials and craftsmanship

Solid acacia. A dense hardwood with a high oil content, giving it genuine resistance to moisture and everyday knocks. Because it is solid throughout rather than veneer over board, the grain continues through the piece, the edges will not chip or lift over the years, and the surface can be refinished decades from now if it ever needs to be.

Walnut brown finish. Chosen to deepen and enhance the natural warm tones of the acacia rather than to disguise them. The flowing grain pattern stays visible, and the surface catches light differently through the day as a result.

Grain, figuring and tone vary from plank to plank and from piece to piece, because this is genuine solid timber. That variation is the material working as intended rather than a fault.

Care and honest expectations

Everyday care. Dust along the grain with a soft dry cloth and wipe spills promptly rather than letting them sit. Use mats and coasters under anything hot or wet.

Refresh with wax. A clear furniture wax once or twice a year nourishes the timber and deepens the walnut tone. Avoid silicone based polishes and all purpose sprays, which build up and dull the surface over time.

Placement. Keep it clear of a radiator and out of prolonged direct sunlight. Dry heat is harder on solid timber than anything else in a normal home, and strong sun will lighten the finish unevenly if only one end sits in it.

What to expect. Acacia is dense and holds up well, but no timber is scratch-proof. The finish develops a warm patina with use, and small marks settle into that rather than standing out.

Questions, answered
What are the dimensions?
W 236cm, D 45cm, H 89.5cm, weighing 117kg. Allow 236cm of clear wall as a minimum and ideally 260cm so the piece has space at either end.
Is it solid wood or veneer?
Solid acacia throughout. The grain continues through the piece rather than sitting on the surface, so the edges will not chip or lift, and it can be refinished decades from now if it ever needs to be.
Why acacia rather than pine or oak?
Acacia is denser and notably more scratch and wear resistant than pine, with a high oil content that gives it real resistance to moisture. Its flowing grain also carries more visual interest than most hardwoods at this price.
Will my console look exactly like the photographs?
Very close, but grain, figuring and tone differ across every plank and from piece to piece. That variation is what tells you it is genuine solid timber. Ask us on live chat if you would like photographs of current stock.
Will it fit through my door?
At 236cm and 117kg this is a substantial delivery. Measure doorways, hallway width, stairwells and any tight turns before ordering, and tell us the route so we can check it with you.
Does it need assembly?
Please check the delivery details shown at checkout for this item, and get in touch if you need it confirmed before ordering. At 117kg, two people are strongly recommended for positioning either way.
Can it go behind a sofa?
Yes. Check that your sofa back sits below 89.5cm and that the sofa can be pulled 45cm clear of the wall. In an open plan room it is one of the best ways to define a seating area without adding walls. Browse our sofas if you are buying both.
Will it mark or scratch?
Acacia is dense and holds up better than pine, but no timber is scratch-proof. The finish develops a warm patina with use and small marks tend to settle into it rather than standing out.
How do I care for it?
Dust along the grain with a soft dry cloth, wipe spills promptly and use coasters. Refresh with a clear furniture wax once or twice a year, and avoid silicone polishes and all purpose sprays.
How long is delivery?
Allow 10 to 14 days. It travels with our specialist furniture courier, who will contact you to arrange a time. Full details on our delivery page.
What if it is not right once it arrives?
Our returns process is straightforward and we will arrange the collection. Given the size, we would always rather help you check measurements and access before you order.
Complete the look
Matching lamps at either end frame 236cm and give the wall symmetry. Ceramic, jute or aged brass all sit well against walnut.
Hung above, a large mirror doubles the light and stops a long low piece feeling bottom heavy against an empty wall.
Dark glazed stoneware anchors the warm walnut. Group three at varying heights rather than spacing them evenly along the top.
One generous arrangement does more than several small ones on a console this long. Foliage rather than florals keeps it current all year.
Contains the small things that otherwise migrate across 236cm, and makes a styled surface look intentional.
A long runner echoes the horizontal of the console and makes a hallway read considerably wider than it is.
A run of three pieces suits the proportion of a 236cm console better than one large canvas.
Ordering with confidence

Every Winslow is checked before it leaves us and packed with the care a solid timber piece of this size needs. Before you order, talk to us about access. At 236cm and 117kg the route into the house matters as much as the room it is going in. Reach us via our contact page or live chat.

If it is not right once it is in the room, our returns process is straightforward, and everything is covered by our guarantees and warranties.

0% interest-free finance is available at checkout, and our price match promise stands if you find the same piece for less elsewhere. Specifying for a project? Ask about trade accounts.

Two and a third metres of solid acacia. Give it the longest wall in the house and let the room build itself around it.
