Will it fit? The 38cm shade is modest for its height, so a surface around 40cm deep takes it comfortably. On a 75cm console the top of the shade sits around 143cm from the floor, so check clearance beneath mirrors or shelves. It suits a generous bedside in a larger room.

A rounded ceramic base with deep vertical fluting running its full height, in a soft matt chalk glaze that absorbs light and lets the shadows show. The white cotton drum shade sits on an iron frame, keeping the whole lamp tonally calm and continuous.

Always switch off and let the bulb cool before cleaning. Dust the fluting with a soft, dry brush, and use only a barely damp cloth on marks, dried straight away. Matt glazes mark more easily than gloss, so avoid anything abrasive. Never use water or spray on the cotton shade.

The 40W maximum makes this an ambient rather than a reading light. For indoor dry rooms only (IP20).

Use a matching pair at either end of a long sideboard, or one on a console with a low bowl alongside. It looks its best against deeper walls such as olive, sage, clay or charcoal. A warm bulb of 2400K to 2700K keeps the white soft rather than grey.

It suits a generous bedside table. On a compact nightstand, a lamp of 45cm to 55cm will sit better.
