Trojan Horse Head Bookends

Will they fit? Allow around 25cm of shelf depth for the bookends and books together. At roughly 800g each, they suit a modest run of books rather than a long, heavy row.

Resin in a pale, sandy stone-effect finish with fine darker speckling and a matt, slightly textured surface. The form draws on classical pediment sculpture: a strong jaw, arched neck and raised crest, simplified into clean planes and curves.

The speckling varies a little from piece to piece, so the two in a pair are siblings rather than twins.

Dust with a soft dry cloth or brush, and use a barely damp cloth on marks, dried straight away. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which can polish the matt finish. Keep out of strong direct sunlight.

Add felt pads beneath if placing on a polished shelf. They are lighter than real stone, so a heavy, packed row of books may push them rather than be held by them.

Use them to frame a short run of books with clear shelf either side, and lay a few volumes flat for rhythm. Or split them: one on the bookshelf, one on a console as a sculptural object. A lamp to one side brings out the carved planes beautifully.
