The Wycliffe side plates are the quiet second layer of a good table. Four stoneware plates at 20cm across, softly irregular in outline, finished with a hand-applied glaze in a neutral natural tone with a gentle sheen. Because the glaze is applied by hand rather than sprayed uniformly, each plate carries its own slight variation in depth and tone — the mark of a piece finished individually. The size is the useful one: right for a starter, a pudding, a side of bread and butter or a light lunch on its own, and right for layering on top of a dinner plate when you want the table to look composed rather than sparse.

Do they match the dinner plates?
Yes, they're made to sit together — same stoneware, same organic outline, same neutral hand-glazed finish. Because the glaze is applied by hand, tone varies slightly between pieces, so they'll read as a considered set rather than an identical, factory-matched one.
Will each plate look the same?
No. The glaze is applied by hand, so depth of colour and sheen vary subtly from plate to plate, as does the exact line of the rim. That variation is the character of the finish rather than a fault.
How do I care for them?
Warm water, a little washing-up liquid and a soft cloth keeps the hand-applied glaze looking its best. Avoid abrasive scourers, and avoid sudden temperature changes — don't take a plate straight from the fridge to a hot oven.
Can I add to the set later?
They're sold in fours, so a second set takes the table to eight. Do bear in mind that a hand-applied glaze won't be an exact colour match between batches — though with a finish like this, the slight difference reads as intentional.
