Will it fit? The base is slim but the shade reaches 52cm across, so allow at least 30cm of clear space either side and keep it slightly away from the wall. At 150cm the shade sits around eye level when seated beside it. Check the height under a sloping ceiling.

Solid rubberwood. A dense, pale hardwood with a fine, even grain, shaped into a sculpted cone and given a smooth natural finish that shows the timber rather than hiding it.

Linen shade. Diffuses light warmly and lets a little glow through the weave itself, softening the edge of the light pool. At 7.6kg with a broad foot, it stays put in a busy room yet is easy to move when you rearrange.

Takes a standard E27 bulb up to 40W, not included. This is an ambient light rather than a reading light, so for reading position it close beside the chair rather than fitting a brighter bulb than the lamp allows.

Go warm: a 5W to 7W LED at 2400K to 2700K gives a soft glow, runs cool and keeps pale timber and linen looking their best. A dimmable LED with a plug-in dimmer makes it the most useful light in the room in the evening.

Dust the base along the grain with a soft, dry cloth, and use nothing abrasive on the natural finish. Never use water or spray on the linen shade, as it will mark. A soft brush, lint roller or cool hairdryer is all it needs.

Run the cable behind furniture rather than across a walkway, and switch off and let the bulb cool before changing it. Grain and tone vary across natural timber, so yours will not match the photograph exactly. Keep out of prolonged direct sun.
