Overlapping strips of real birch bark run around the full circumference, carrying the natural striations, knots, scars and tonal shifts of the tree. A rattan trim and a narrow, softly distressed antique gilt lip frame the glass.

Because the bark is applied by hand, every Birkdale differs in pattern, knot placement and tonal depth. These variations are the point of the piece, not flaws.

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth or the soft brush attachment of a vacuum. Avoid damp cloths and cleaning sprays on the bark, as natural birch is sensitive to moisture, and keep it away from steamy rooms such as bathrooms.

Natural light brings out the metallic depth of the bark and gilt. Hang above a piece from our console tables and sideboards, or in a modern country or wabi-sabi living room.

Is the bark really natural birch?

Yes. It is genuine birch bark applied by hand over an MDF base, with a rattan trim and gilt inner detail.

Will mine look exactly like the photos?

The photos are representative, but every frame has its own pattern of bark texture, knots and tone.

How is it hung?

It arrives ready to hang with a fixing on the reverse. At 21kg, mount into a wall stud or use plasterboard fixings rated for the weight, with a second pair of hands.

Can it go in a bathroom?

We advise against it. Natural birch is sensitive to moisture, so keep it out of steamy rooms.
