Most faux alliums on the market betray themselves at the globe — solid, foam-formed heads stuck with rigid florets that give away the artificial construction at first glance. The Aldbury is built differently. The globe is composed of dozens of individually formed star-shaped florets, layered in cream and soft green tones for a naturalistic two-tone effect, with enough density and visual depth to read convincingly even at close range. The stem is straight and tall in the manner of a real allium — many faux versions cheat with a short, stubby stem to save on material — and the head sits in proportion at the top in the way that gives real alliums their distinctive lollipop silhouette. Each Aldbury allium stem is sold individually. For a properly architectural look, we'd suggest at least three stems together (odd numbers always read more naturally than even), or five for a fuller statement arrangement in a wide-bellied vase or urn.
Can the stem be trimmed?
Yes — the stem can be trimmed with wire cutters or strong scissors for shorter vases. Allium looks particularly good with varied stem heights in an arrangement, so consider trimming some stems shorter and leaving others at full length for a more naturalistic composition.
What kind of vase suits it best?
A tall, narrow-necked vase or jug works well for a single stem or a small grouping — the narrow neck holds the long stems in position without them flopping. For larger groupings, a wider-bellied urn or vase with a generous opening lets the stems fan out and shows off the spherical heads at their best.
How do I clean it?
Dust gently with a soft brush — a clean make-up brush or a soft paintbrush works well for getting between the individual florets. A cool hairdryer on low setting can also lift dust from the globe. Avoid wet cleaners, which can stain the cream florets or disturb the construction. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the colour.
