Choosing the right bed
The bed is the largest and most important piece in any bedroom, so it pays to get the proportions right. For most UK bedrooms, a king (150cm wide) gives generous sleeping space without overwhelming the room; a super king (180cm) suits larger principal bedrooms with at least 60–80cm of clear floor space on either side. Allow at least 70cm at the foot of the bed for comfortable circulation.
Pine, oak or upholstered
Reclaimed pine beds like the Cotswolds bring warmth, patina and a country house feel, they suit period properties, farmhouse renovations and bedrooms with natural light. Solid oak frames such as the Antoine sit comfortably in both modern and traditional interiors and develop a deeper colour over time. Bedside tables and chests
Bedside tables should sit roughly level with the top of your mattress - typically 55–65cm tall. For a balanced look, allow 5–10cm of clearance from the side of the bed.
