Above a sofa, artwork should span roughly two thirds of the furniture width. At 110cm as a pair, this suits a sofa of about 165cm to 200cm, which covers most two and three seaters.

The gap between them matters. 5cm to 10cm reads as one arrangement. Wider than about 15cm and they stop relating to each other and become two separate pictures on the same wall.

Stacked vertically, with the same 8cm gap, the pair occupies 51cm wide by 88cm tall. That is the arrangement for a narrow wall, a chimney breast alcove or beside a door.

They are designed as a pair, which is the part you cannot do yourself without a lot of effort.

Anyone who has tried to assemble a matching pair of prints knows the problem. Two pictures that look right individually rarely look right together: the greens are slightly off, one sky is warmer than the other, the frames are a shade apart. The result is a wall that feels almost right and never quite settles.

These two share a palette, a tonal range and an identical frame. Hung together they read as one considered arrangement rather than two purchases that happened to end up on the same wall.

The soft gold frame is a deliberate choice over black or white. Gold carries warmth and a slightly traditional quality that suits a pastoral subject, where a hard black frame would fight it and a white frame would disappear into a pale wall. It also picks up warm timber, brass and rattan elsewhere in a room.

The centre of the arrangement wants to sit at around 145cm from the floor, which is standard gallery eye level. Hanging too high is the single most common mistake, and it makes a room feel unfinished.

Over a sofa or a console, leave 20cm to 25cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the frames. Closer looks crowded, further and the two stop reading as a group.

Lay both frames on the floor first at the spacing you want, measure it, then mark the wall. Adjusting a gap after the fact means two extra holes.

Stagger them so the gap between the two runs parallel to the stair line rather than level. The arrangement should climb with the stairs, not sit flat against them.

At roughly 2.2kg each these are light. Into masonry, a plug and screw. Into plasterboard, a stud where possible or a proper plasterboard anchor. Check for pipes and cables before you drill.

Any print fades in a sunny spot over years. A wall opposite a window rather than beside one gives them a considerably longer life.

Pick up the frame tone elsewhere in the room. A brass lamp base, a warm timber surface or a small metal object on the console below. One repeat is enough.

Muted landscape art needs quiet behind it. On a busy wallpaper the tonal subtlety of these prints disappears entirely.

They are designed to sit together, but they work individually too. One above a bedside and one in a hallway is a perfectly good use of the set.

One either side of a mirror above a console gives you a symmetrical arrangement with a focal point in the middle. Match the vertical centres of all three.

Muted greens and browns sit naturally with linen, jute and warm neutrals. Against a cool grey scheme they can look muddy rather than soft.

Dust the frame with a dry cloth. Nothing wet on a gold finish, and nothing abrasive, both of which will lift it.

The canvas takes a dry brush only. Never wet a canvas print, and never use cleaning spray on it. A soft brush lifts dust from the weave without disturbing the surface.

Keep them out of direct sunlight. All prints fade eventually, and a sunny wall shortens that considerably. Away from steam too, so not a bathroom.

Check the fixings once a year and straighten if either has drifted. Thirty seconds, and worth doing.

What to expect. Printed colour varies slightly from what a screen shows, and the canvas texture is more visible in person than in a photograph. Both are characteristics of the medium.
