The Kennet is a proper dog basket, made the old way. Handwoven from natural seagrass over a sturdy frame, with a deep oval body, high sides for a dog to lean into and a low cut-out at the front for easy stepping in and out. Seagrass gives it the honest, slightly variegated colour and the tight, ropey weave of a basket that's been made rather than moulded, and it only improves as it settles. Choose the smaller size for terriers, pugs and bulldogs, or the larger for spaniels, labradors and similar medium breeds. Add a folded blanket or cushion and it becomes the warmest corner in the house.

Most dog beds are designed to be tolerated rather than looked at. The Kennet is woven by hand from seagrass, which means the tone shifts subtly through the basket, the weave has genuine texture, and it sits in a hallway or beside a fireplace as naturally as any woven basket you'd buy for logs or throws. The oval shape suits the way dogs actually sleep, curled against a side rather than stretched flat, and the raised walls give the enclosed, den-like feel that settles an anxious dog. The dropped front is the practical detail: it lets an older or shorter-legged dog step in without a scramble, while the back and sides stay high enough to keep a draught off. Which size do I need?
Measure your dog lying down from nose to base of tail and add roughly 15cm. The small basket is 70cm by 55cm and suits terriers, pugs, bulldogs and similar; the large is 90cm by 70cm and suits spaniels, labradors and other medium breeds. Both stand 25cm high. If your dog is between sizes, size up — they'll use the extra room.
Are the two sizes sold as a pair?
No, they're sold individually. Both sizes are shown together in our photography to give a sense of scale, so please select the size you need at checkout.
Does it come with a cushion or blanket?
The basket is supplied on its own, so you can line it with whatever suits your dog and your room — a folded wool throw, a flat cushion cut to the oval, or an existing bed dropped inside. A washable liner is the easiest option day to day.
Will it stand up to a chewer?
Seagrass is a natural fibre, so a determined chewer or a teething puppy will make short work of the weave. For those dogs we'd suggest waiting until they've grown out of it. For settled adult dogs it wears very well.
How do I clean it?
Vacuum the weave with a brush attachment and spot clean with a barely damp cloth, then let it dry fully. Seagrass shouldn't be soaked or steam cleaned. Keeping a washable liner inside does most of the work for you.
Can it go outside?
It's an indoor basket. Seagrass will soften and mark if it's left damp, so keep it out of conservatories that run humid, utility rooms with wet floors and anywhere it might catch the rain.
