A horse caught mid-graze, head dropped and neck curved — cast in aluminium and given an antiqued finish that reads like something dug out of a barn.

The Marbury is a study in one gesture. A cast aluminium horse standing on a solid plinth, head lowered to graze, its neck drawn into a long curve and its form simplified right down to the essential shape. There's no detailing to speak of — no musculature, no bridle, barely a suggestion of eye and ear — which is precisely why it works: the piece is about posture rather than portraiture, and the arch of the body and legs frames the space beneath it like a doorway. The antiqued finish carries mottled bronze, rust and pale chalky passages over the surface, so it has the weathered look of a piece with a history behind it. At 27cm it's substantial without dominating a shelf.

Animal sculpture usually falls into either literal realism or novelty. The Marbury does neither — it abstracts the horse down to a silhouette, so the piece reads as sculpture first and subject second, which is what lets it sit in a room that isn't otherwise horse-themed. The antiqued finish is applied by hand over the cast metal, layering bronze, rust and chalk-white so no two pieces weather quite the same way, and the recesses hold more colour than the raised surfaces, which is exactly how age behaves. Cast aluminium gives it real heft at 2.7kg without the price or the weight of bronze, and the integral plinth means it sits square and stable on a mantel, shelf or console without needing a stand.
