Will they fit? The large suits a coffee table, ottoman, kitchen island or wide console. The small sits comfortably on a dressing table, bedside or bathroom vanity. The smaller nests inside the larger for storage.

MDF with a smooth, high-gloss lacquer finish in pale blush outside and warm taupe within, so the interior reads with soft depth. Both long sides are gently scalloped, dipping at the centre for easy reach.

Wipe with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth and dry straight away. Never soak or leave water standing, as moisture can swell the MDF edges. Avoid abrasives and harsh sprays, which dull the gloss.

Use coasters for hot mugs and candles, and a plate or liner for food, as lacquer can mark. Gloss shows fingerprints, which a dry cloth removes in seconds. Keep away from direct shower steam.

Fill each tray about two thirds full with three objects at different heights, such as a candle, a small bowl and a stack of books, and let something useful like the remotes live there too. Set the gloss against linen, timber and rattan for lovely contrast. A thoughtful gift, too.
