Some furniture fills a room. This one anchors it.
170cm of weathered reclaimed pine, hand-turned balustrade legs, and character no new wood can replicate.
Substantial enough to hold a sofa arrangement together, beautiful enough to be worth looking at from every angle. Every plank carries its own knots, grain and weathered patina, so no two are ever the same. Browse all coffee tables.
Furniture built to be lived with, not preserved. Every ring from a mug adds to it.

The detail that makes it different
The balustrade legs are what separate the Augustine from every other rustic coffee table on the market.
Turned by hand and full of sculptural character, they give the piece an architectural quality that a simple tapered or straight leg can never achieve. On a coffee table this matters more than on almost any other piece of furniture, because a coffee table sits in the middle of a room and is seen from every side. There is no back to hide.
At 170cm long and 45cm high, the Augustine is substantial enough to anchor a generous seating arrangement without overwhelming the room. That length is the reason it works where a smaller table would float unconvincingly in front of a large sofa.
The weathered pine surface only improves with age, developing deeper patina and greater character with every passing year, every ring from a mug, every scratch from family life. On a coffee table, which takes more daily abuse than anything else in a living room, that is not a romantic notion. It is the practical argument for choosing reclaimed timber over anything with a pristine lacquered finish.
Part of the Augustine collection. Complete the look with matching pieces in the same weathered pine and balustrade detailing, in our console tables and sideboards range.
Why you will love it
- Hand-turned balustrade legs, sculptural from every angle rather than plain posts
- 170cm of length, enough to anchor a three seater and two chairs
- 45cm height, level with most sofa seats, which is where a coffee table should sit
- Weathered reclaimed pine with grain and knots no new timber can replicate
- Marks blend in rather than standing out, which matters most on a coffee table
- 69.5cm deep, a genuinely usable surface rather than a narrow ledge
- Part of a collection, so console and sideboard can follow in the same finish
- Genuinely unique, since no two pieces of reclaimed pine are the same
Size and placement
At 45cm the top sits roughly level with most sofa seat heights, which is the comfortable range for reaching a cup without leaning down. The 170cm length suits a three seater or a large corner arrangement. In front of a two seater it will look oversized, so measure your sofa before ordering.
Generous living rooms, three seater sofas, corner arrangements and open plan snugs.
The rule of thumb. A coffee table should be roughly two thirds the length of your sofa. At 170cm, the Augustine suits a sofa of around 220cm to 260cm.
Leave 40cm to 45cm between the sofa edge and the table. Closer and it is hard to get past, further and you cannot reach your cup without standing.
On a rug. The whole table should sit on the rug, not half on and half off. At 170 by 69.5cm that usually means a rug of at least 200 by 300cm.
How our stylists would dress it
On a 170cm surface, work in three loose clusters with clear space between them. A stack of books with a small object on top, a tray with a candle, and something living or foliage at the far end. Leave the middle relatively clear so the table still functions.
The single most useful thing you can put on a coffee table. A tray corrals remotes, coasters and the small things that otherwise spread, and it makes a styled surface look intentional rather than arranged.
Something tall, something low, something flat. Books laid flat give you a plinth to raise a small object onto, which is the trick that makes a coffee table look considered.
Warm weathered pine wants warm neutrals around it. Off white, oatmeal, clay and mushroom. Dark glazed stoneware from pots and vases anchors all that amber timber. Cool grey drains the warmth and pushes the pine towards orange.
We would rather say this plainly than have you discover it. Reclaimed pine is absorbent, and a wet glass left standing will mark. Everyday scratches blend in beautifully. Water rings are the one thing that does not.
Materials and craftsmanship
Reclaimed pine. A softwood with an open, expressive grain, which is exactly why it takes patination so well. Decades of previous use leave a depth of colour and knot structure that no kiln process replicates. Being softwood it marks more readily than oak, and on a weathered finish that is a feature rather than a problem.
Hand-turned balustrade legs. Shaped individually rather than pressed or moulded, which gives them a depth of profile that machine alternatives never quite match. On a piece seen from all four sides, that detail earns its place.
Weathered finish. Applied to preserve the timber's history rather than to imitate it. Knots and grain variation are left where they fell rather than filled or sanded away.
Due to the handmade nature of this piece, rustic character and natural imperfections vary from table to table. These are to be embraced rather than avoided, and they are the reason the Augustine looks collected rather than bought.
At a glance
Care and honest expectations
Use coasters. The one piece of care advice that genuinely matters here. Reclaimed pine is absorbent, and a wet glass left standing will discolour the surface in a way that does not blend into the character.
Everyday care. Dust along the grain with a soft dry cloth and wipe spills promptly rather than letting them sit.
Refresh with wax. A clear furniture wax once or twice a year nourishes the timber and deepens the tone. Avoid silicone polishes and all purpose sprays, which build up and dull the surface.
Placement. Keep it clear of a radiator where you can, and out of prolonged direct sunlight, which will lighten the surface unevenly if only one end sits in it.
What to expect. Scratches and knocks accumulate and settle into the existing character rather than standing out. If you want a coffee table that stays exactly as it arrived, reclaimed timber is the wrong choice. If you want one that looks better in five years, it is the right one.
