Dust along the grain with a soft dry cloth and wipe spills promptly. Use coasters and mats, because scratches blend into a weathered finish but water rings do not. Apply clear furniture wax once or twice a year, avoid silicone sprays, and keep the piece away from radiators where you can.

Reclaimed pine is a softwood, so it marks more readily than oak. If you want a surface that stays exactly as it arrived, reclaimed timber is the wrong choice.

Works in hallways, behind a sofa, in a dining room or as a bedroom dressing table. Style it in two or three groups: a lamp at one end, ceramics at the other, a large mirror above and baskets below.
