The Ashwell is a full table with real texture to it. Twelve pieces of glazed earthenware in a soft, cool grey — four dinner plates, four side plates and four deep bowls — each with close vertical fluting running around the outer wall and a warm gold-brown tone catching along the rim and through the ridges. That combination is what gives the set its depth: the pale glaze pools between the flutes and thins across the ridges, so the reeding is picked out in a warmer tone without any pattern being applied. The plates have a gently raised lip rather than a flat rim, which keeps sauces where they should be, and the bowls are properly deep at 6cm. Food, dishwasher and microwave safe throughout.
