The Birkdale Mirror is built around a frame of genuine birch bark, layered in overlapping strips around the full circumference of the 1.16m round and finished with a softly distressed antique-gilt inner lip that frames the glass. The bark carries the natural striations, knots and tonal shifts of the original tree — silver-grey woven with deep gold and bronze, with the irregularity of a found material rather than the uniformity of a printed one. The whole piece reads as something that has been collected from a forest and quietly finished by hand, rather than manufactured.

The narrow gilt inner band is the considered counterpoint — a refined, classical detail that catches the metallic tones already present in the bark and elevates the whole piece from rustic-natural into something quietly luxurious.

Is the bark on the frame really natural birch?
Yes — the frame is genuine birch bark applied by hand over an MDF base structure, with a rattan trim and gilt inner detail. The bark carries the real knots, striations and tonal variation of the original tree, which is why no two Birkdales are identical.
Will my mirror look exactly like the photos?
Because the bark is a natural material applied by hand, every Birkdale carries its own unique pattern of bark texture, knots and tonal depth. The character you see in the photos is representative — your mirror will have its own distinctive personality. Entirely one of a kind.
How is it hung?
The Birkdale arrives ready to hang with a fixing on the reverse. At 21kg, we'd recommend mounting into a wall stud or using appropriate plasterboard fixings rated for the weight — and a second pair of hands when positioning, given the size of the frame.
How do I care for the bark frame?
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or use the soft brush attachment on a vacuum. Avoid damp cloths or cleaning sprays directly on the bark — natural birch is sensitive to moisture. Keep the mirror away from steamy environments like bathrooms to preserve the frame.
