The natural finish on solid oak is the choice that requires the most confidence from a furniture maker — there is nowhere to hide imperfections, and every grain variation, knot and tonal shift in the timber is visible in the final piece. On the Beeley that transparency is the quality rather than the risk: oak with strong natural grain character is more visually interesting than a piece in which the wood has been stained to uniformity, and the variations between drawers — inevitable in solid timber — are the evidence of the genuine material rather than a manufacturing inconsistency.
