A six-drawer dresser in reclaimed old fir, with a pale washed finish.
Reclaimed fir with a washed natural finish and antique-style metal ring pulls, across six spacious drawers.
The wood has already lived. The grain is deeper and the tonal variation richer than new timber, and the washed finish lets that show rather than covering it. Browse all chests and drawers.
A pale reclaimed finish is rarer than a dark one, and far easier to live with in a small bedroom.

The measurements, and the wall you need
30.5kg, with six drawers across the full height. Reclaimed old fir with a washed natural finish.
Only 41cm deep, which is shallower than most chests of drawers.
The shallow depth is the useful part. Most six-drawer chests run 45cm to 50cm, so this fits along a bedroom wall or a hallway where a deeper piece would intrude. Allow at least 90cm of clear floor in front so the drawers open fully.
The height suits a mirror above it. At 81cm the top sits at a comfortable working level for a dressing surface, with room on the wall for a mirror at eye level.
Allow around 150cm of wall so the piece has a little space at either end rather than sitting corner to corner.
It is lighter than most chests this size, which helps getting it up a staircase, but it is still a two person lift. Measure doorways, stairwell turns and tight corners before ordering.
The detail that makes it different
Reclaimed old fir has a quality new timber simply cannot replicate.
The wood has already lived. The grain is deeper, the tonal variation richer, and the knots and subtle marks of age are woven into every plank in a way no distressing technique applied to new wood convincingly recreates.
The washed finish enhances that character rather than concealing it, letting the grain show through in a pale, airy tone. That matters more than it sounds: most reclaimed timber furniture is dark, and a pale reclaimed finish gives you the character without the visual weight, which suits a smaller bedroom considerably better.
Natural variation in grain, tone and the occasional knot means no two are identical, and yours will not match the photograph exactly.
The antique-style metal ring pulls are the considered hardware choice here. The loop handle references the traditional ironmongery of farmhouse and cottage furniture, and sits against the washed fir without competing with it. Plain modern knobs on a reclaimed piece always look like an afterthought.
Why you will love it
- Reclaimed old fir, with a depth of grain and tonal variation new timber lacks
- Pale washed finish, rarer than a dark reclaimed piece and easier in a small room
- Six drawers, genuine storage for clothing, linens or household items
- Antique-style ring pulls, traditional ironmongery rather than modern knobs
- Only 41cm deep, so it fits where a standard chest would intrude
- Works as a dressing surface with a mirror above it
- Lighter than most chests of this size, which helps on delivery day
- No two alike, since reclaimed timber never repeats
What fits in six drawers
In a bedroom, six drawers handles a full wardrobe of folded clothing: jumpers and knitwear in the deeper lower drawers, socks, underwear and smaller items up top where they are easiest to reach.
In a guest room or landing, spare bedding, towels and out-of-season clothing, with the top left free as a surface.
In a living room or hallway, the everyday things that need a home rather than a pile: chargers, batteries, candles, dog leads, paperwork.
The top itself is a genuine surface at 128cm across, so it takes a pair of lamps, a tray and a small arrangement without crowding.
How our stylists would use it
The most useful thing you can do with a dresser. A mirror at 20cm to 25cm above the top turns it into a dressing table and gives the wall its focal point.
Warm light at 2400K to 2700K on a pale washed timber. Cool light on a whitewashed finish turns it grey and drains the warmth out of the grain entirely.
A washed fir is cooler than most reclaimed timber, so give it warmth nearby. Linen, rattan, brass or a jute rug underfoot keeps a bedroom from tipping cold.
Lamp and a small tray at one end, a vase or a stack of books at the other, with clear space in the middle. A dresser top that is fully styled has nowhere to put anything down.
Ring pulls are a strong hardware statement. Pick up the metal once elsewhere in the room, in a lamp base or a mirror frame, and leave it there.
At a glance
Care and honest expectations
Dust along the grain with a soft dry cloth, and wipe spills straight away. A pale washed finish shows a water mark more readily than a dark stain would.
Nothing wet beyond a barely damp cloth, dried immediately. Avoid silicone polishes and all-purpose sprays, which build up and dull a washed surface.
Use mats and coasters on the top, particularly if it is doubling as a dressing table where bottles and jars stand.
Keep it clear of a radiator and out of prolonged direct sun. Dry heat is hard on solid timber, and sun lightens a pale finish unevenly.
What to expect. Grain, knots and tonal shifts vary across the piece and between pieces, because the timber is genuinely reclaimed. Fir is a softwood, so it marks more readily than oak. Both are the material working as intended rather than faults.
