Will it fit? A standard 240cm ceiling gives comfortable clearance, but not beneath sloping eaves or low beams. Check doorways and stairwells, and allow room to tilt it upright once inside. Leave around 120cm of wall.

Please fix it to the wall once in position, especially with children or pets at home, and keep heavier items on the lower shelves.

Solid elm throughout, with a wandering, characterful grain that's warmer and more individual than oak. As the grain runs right through, it can be refinished for decades to come, and no two cabinets are alike.

Glazed upper doors keep your display visible and dust-free, above a solid lower cupboard. The solid brass hardware develops a soft patina over time.

Glass. Spray cleaner onto a cloth rather than the panels, so nothing runs into the timber.

Elm and brass. Dust along the grain with a soft dry cloth and wax once or twice a year. Avoid silicone sprays. The brass can be polished back to bright if you prefer.

Placement. Keep it clear of radiators and all-day direct sun, and load it heaviest at the bottom.

What to expect. Grain, figure and knots vary from cabinet to cabinet, so yours won't match the photographs exactly.

Give it a wall you face rather than pass. Fill each shelf two thirds full with vases, bowls and glassware, in odd numbers and varied heights, and add a trailing stem of greenery.

A warm table lamp nearby makes the glass glow at night. Elm looks beautiful against soft white or stone, and dramatic against deep olive or charcoal.
