Light at eye height, which is where a room actually needs it
Hand-rubbed brass, a fluted stem and a crisp white tapered shade. The wall light that brings a hallway or bedroom to life immediately.
Wall lighting does something table lamps and overhead fittings cannot. It places light close to the wall at the height people stand, casting warmth and shadow rather than simply illuminating. Browse all wall lights.
One wall light is a fitting. A matching pair is a decision, and the room reads it instantly.

The detail that makes it different
The hand-rubbed brass is the Breanne's most considered quality, and the reason it works in more rooms than either alternative would.
Polished brass reads bright and contemporary. Aged brass reads purely antique. Hand-rubbed brass sits between the two, warm and slightly muted, with depth and variation across the surface that develops further over time as a natural patina forms. It is the finish that lets one fitting suit a period hallway and a new build equally.
The fluted stem adds an architectural refinement a plain cylindrical arm lacks. Those ridges catch light along their length, which gives the fitting a sculptural quality even when it is switched off. On a wall light that matters more than people expect, because it spends most of the day unlit.
The white tapered shade completes it. Simple, classic, and deliberately quiet so the brass does the talking. Fabric diffuses the bulb into a soft warm glow rather than the hard edge a glass shade gives you.
Works beautifully as a single accent or as a matching pair. Flanking a mirror in a hallway, either side of a bed, or symmetrically in a living room alcove. Order two for a cohesive installation.
Why you will love it
- Hand-rubbed brass, warmer than polished and less antique than aged, so it suits more rooms
- Fluted stem that catches light along its ridges even when the fitting is off
- White fabric shade for a soft warm glow rather than a hard glare
- Only 20cm projection, so it works in a genuinely narrow hallway
- 13cm wide, which fits panelling and narrow piers of wall a broader fitting would not
- Standard E14 fitting, so replacement bulbs are easy and you choose your own warmth
- Develops a patina over the years rather than wearing
- Reads correctly in pairs, which is where wall lighting earns its keep
Size and where to hang it
The shade is 13cm tall, tapering from 9cm across the top to 13cm at the bottom. At just 20cm of projection this is a genuinely slim fitting, which is what makes it usable in a corridor, beside a door frame, or in the tight run of wall next to a bed where a swing-arm or picture light would catch a shoulder.
Hallways, bedsides, stairwells, alcoves and either side of a mirror.
In a hallway. Hang the centre of the fitting around 150cm to 165cm from the floor, which is standard eye level. Any lower and you look straight at the bulb as you walk past.
Beside a bed. Drop to around 120cm to 140cm so the shade sits below eye level when you are sitting up reading. Measure from your mattress height rather than the floor if your bed is unusually high or low.
In pairs. Allow at least 90cm between centres so the pools of light read as two rather than merging into one. Either side of a mirror, align the centres with the mirror's midpoint rather than its top.
Choosing the right bulb
This matters more than anything else on the page, because the bulb decides what the light actually feels like.
2400K to 2700K. Anything cooler makes brass read grey and turns a white shade clinical. This is the single most common reason a beautiful fitting disappoints once it is up.
Standard E14 small screw, so replacements are easy to find anywhere and you are not locked into whatever the fitting shipped with.
Wall lights are atmosphere rather than task lighting. Something modest is right. If you are reading in bed by it, go a step brighter but keep the warmth.
Fit a dimmable LED and pair it with a compatible LED dimmer, and the Breanne dims beautifully. That is when a hallway genuinely comes into its own in the evening.
How our stylists would use it
A pair either side of a hallway mirror is the most useful lighting arrangement in a house. Light on both sides of a face rather than above it, and a corridor that finally reads as a room.
Frees the entire bedside table surface, which is worth a great deal in a small bedroom. Two matching fittings, symmetrically placed, and nothing to knock over in the dark.
Two or three at the same height above each tread line turns a dark staircase into something considered. This is where wall lighting is genuinely transformative.
A single fitting off-centre above a console table, balanced by a plant or a vase at the other end, reads better than a symmetrical pair on a shorter wall.
Warm brass wants warm neutrals. Off white, oatmeal, mushroom and warm plaster. Against a deep olive or charcoal wall the brass genuinely glows. Cool grey drains it.
Materials and craftsmanship
Hand-rubbed brass. The finish is worked by hand rather than machine applied, which is why there is variation in depth across the surface. It will darken gently in places over the years, which is the point rather than a flaw.
Fluted stem. Ridged along its length, giving the fitting a sculptural quality and catching light in a way a plain arm cannot.
Round backplate. A quiet, traditional detail that sits neatly against plaster or panelling.
White tapered fabric shade. 13cm tall, 9cm across the top and 13cm at the bottom, diffusing the bulb into a soft warm glow.
Small variations in the brass finish are part of how it is applied and are not faults. Two fittings will be siblings rather than twins.
At a glance
Care and honest expectations
The brass. A dry lint-free cloth. Never use brass polish or an abrasive cleaner, which will lift the hand-rubbed finish back to bright metal in patches. If a mark needs more, a barely damp cloth followed immediately by a dry one is as far as we would go.
The shade. A soft dry brush, a lint roller or a hairdryer on the cool setting. Never water or cleaning spray on a fabric shade, as it marks permanently. A white shade shows dust sooner than a coloured one, so a monthly once-over is worth it.
The patina. Hand-rubbed brass darkens gently with time and handling, particularly around the switch or wherever hands reach. We consider that an improvement. If you want it to stay exactly as it arrived, this is the wrong finish.
Placement. Interior use only. This is not IP rated for bathroom zones or outdoor use, and brass marks in damp conditions.
Fixings. Worth checking are still snug once a year.
