Blossom Ceramic Vase

The Blossom Vase — a softly rounded silhouette in glossy white ceramic, drawn over with a fine sepia line of blossoming branches in bud and bloom — a botanical illustration rendered as a vase.

This vase brings something most patterned ceramics never attempt — a hand-drawn line illustration in sepia ink rather than the expected cobalt blue or printed colour. The motif is a blossoming branch, gnarled wood twisting up from the base of the vase, smaller boughs reaching outward and finishing in clusters of delicate five-petalled flowers and tight unopened buds. The execution reads like a botanical etching from a 19th-century plate book — fine, slightly hesitant pen lines on a glossy white ground, the warm brown of the ink softening the whole composition into something quieter and more considered.

The sepia palette is the move that makes the Blossom Vase work in rooms where bolder colour patterning would feel out of place — warm cream and soft taupe interiors, neutral linen sofas, oak and walnut surfaces, the kind of quietly tonal spaces that traditionally have no place for stronger pattern. The rounded silhouette is generous through the shoulder before drawing in to a small neat mouth at the top — a form designed to be filled with a single architectural stem or a small bunch of branches rather than a full florist's bouquet that would hide the drawing underneath. The narrow 11cm opening keeps the focus on the illustration, the branches inside echoing the branches drawn on the surface.
