Can the stem be trimmed?
Yes — the stem can be trimmed with wire cutters or strong scissors for shorter vases. Allium looks particularly good with varied stem heights in an arrangement, so consider trimming some stems shorter and leaving others at full length for a more naturalistic composition.
What kind of vase suits it best?
A tall, narrow-necked vase or jug works well for a single stem or a small grouping — the narrow neck holds the long stems in position without them flopping. For larger groupings, a wider-bellied urn or vase with a generous opening lets the stems fan out and shows off the spherical heads at their best.
How do I clean it?
Dust gently with a soft brush — a clean make-up brush or a soft paintbrush works well for getting between the individual florets. A cool hairdryer on low setting can also lift dust from the globe. Avoid wet cleaners, which can stain the cream florets or disturb the construction. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the colour.
