Seagrass has a dense, ropey surface that lifts dirt and grit from shoes before it reaches your floors, which is exactly what a doormat is for. At 80cm by 50cm it covers a doorway properly, and at just 1cm deep it lies flat under a door swing rather than snagging every time it opens.

The usual choice at a front door is a coir mat with a slogan on it, or nothing at all. The Saltmarsh is handwoven, so the stripes sit at uneven intervals and the seagrass carries genuine tonal variation through the weave — it reads as a textile rather than a utility item, which is why it can sit in a hallway you actually care about. Seagrass is naturally tough and slightly waxy, so it resists dirt working into the fibre and shakes out easily. The neutral base with charcoal and cream keeps it quiet enough for a pale hallway while giving it more to say than plain jute or coir.
