A 236cm solid acacia console table, distressed entirely by hand.
The Laura is the large acacia console table you wait for rather than settle for.
Solid acacia, hand-finished in a warm antique distress that celebrates every knot and grain. At 236cm it stops behaving like furniture placed against a wall and starts defining the wall itself. Ornate turned balustrade legs, a deep 45cm top and a lower shelf. Browse all console tables and sideboards.
236cm of solid acacia. Every knot and grain variation left exactly where it fell.

Why we chose this piece
Most console tables are compromises. Narrow because hallways are narrow, light because they need moving, uniform because uniformity is cheaper.
The Laura is none of those things, and that is precisely why it earned a place in the collection.
The hand-distressed antique finish makes no attempt to look perfect. It celebrates the grain, the knots and the tonal variations that make each table quietly, unmistakably unique. Distressing applied by hand never repeats itself, which is why it reads as genuine age. Machine distressing gives itself away within a few feet, because the same mark lands in the same place on every unit made that week.
Solid acacia is the second reason. A dense hardwood with rich varied grain and real resistance to knocks and moisture, which is why it is used for chopping boards and outdoor furniture as well as fine interior pieces. On a console holding lamps, keys and daily life, that matters more than a prettier but softer wood would.
Then the ornate turned balustrade legs. They draw the eye downward and add an architectural quality that four plain posts never contribute. Style it with a mirror and ceramics and it becomes the focal point. Leave it almost bare and it still holds the space entirely on its own.
Why you will love it
- Solid acacia hardwood throughout, dense and hardwearing rather than veneered over board
- Hand-distressed antique finish that reads as genuine age, never as a repeated factory effect
- 236cm of presence that defines a long wall rather than apologising for it
- Deep 45cm top with genuine room for a lamp, a vase, a tray and a stack of books
- Sturdy lower shelf for baskets and storage, without cluttering the line of the piece
- Ornate turned balustrade legs that give an architectural quality plain posts cannot
- Warm neutral tones that sit naturally with farmhouse, French country, rustic and vintage interiors
- Easy upkeep, since marks blend into a distressed finish rather than standing out against it
- Genuinely unique, with grain, knots and distressing found on no other table
How our stylists would dress it
A console this long rewards planning. Style it in three groups rather than spreading objects evenly across the width, and it will look considered rather than arranged.
Behind a sofa is where the Laura earns its keep, provided you have 236cm of clear run and the sofa sits proud of the wall. In a hallway, give it the longest uninterrupted stretch and leave at least 90cm of walking space in front. Against a dining room wall it becomes a serving surface at a comfortable 89.5cm height.
Warm distressed acacia sits beautifully against soft white, oatmeal, putty, mushroom and stone. For depth, sage, deep olive or soft charcoal behind it will make the amber tones glow. Avoid cool grey and stark brilliant white, which drain warmth from distressed wood and push it towards orange.
A pair of matching table lamps at either end is the single most effective thing you can do with a console this long. It frames the piece, creates symmetry and gives you low warm light in the evening. Use warm bulbs of 2400K to 2700K, as cooler light flattens a distressed finish completely.
Distressed acacia is warm and matt, so give it something to play against. Aged brass, dark glazed stoneware, linen and a wool or jute rug underfoot provide the contrast that stops a neutral room reading flat. One rough texture, one polished, one matt is the rule we use.
Lamp at one end, then a cluster of ceramics and foliage at varying heights, then a stack of books with one small object on top. Leave clear space between the groups. Use the lower shelf for two large baskets or a run of trays rather than filling it, and hang a large mirror or a trio of artwork above to complete the wall.
What it does to a room
A room with a long empty wall always feels unfinished, and small furniture makes the problem worse rather than better. The Laura solves it in one move. At 236cm it fills the horizontal, gives the eye somewhere to rest and immediately makes the rest of the room look intentional.
Behind a sofa it creates a defined zone in an open plan space, which is the hardest thing to achieve in a room without walls. In a hallway it turns a corridor into a landing point, somewhere for a lamp, a mirror and the small ritual of arriving home. Against a dining room wall it becomes a serving surface for entertaining and a display surface the rest of the year.
Seasonally it is quietly adaptable. Foliage and stoneware in spring, a shallow bowl of fruit and linen through summer, dried grasses and candlelight in autumn, and in December it takes garlands and candles along its length better than almost any other piece of furniture in a house.
Size and placement
Weighing 117kg. You need 236cm of clear wall as an absolute minimum, and ideally 260cm so the piece has breathing space at either end. Leave 90cm of walking room in front in a hallway. At 89.5cm it sits above most sofa backs, which is what makes it work as a divider in an open plan room.
Measure your route, not just your wall. At 236cm wide and 117kg this cannot be manoeuvred around an obstacle the way a lighter piece can. Check doorways, hallway width, stairwells and any tight turns before ordering.

Interior styles it suits
Hand-distressed timber and turned legs are the language of farmhouse interiors. The scale suits the generous proportions these rooms usually have.
The balustrade legs give the ornate quality French country schemes are built on, while the antique finish keeps it from looking new or formal.
Knots, grain variation and honest imperfection are exactly what rustic interiors ask for. Nothing here has been smoothed away to look uniform.
Pair it with clean walls and restrained styling and the Laura becomes the single characterful element in an otherwise calm room, which is the essence of the look.
The antique finish and turned detailing read as salvaged rather than bought, and the substantial solid timber build sits comfortably in period homes and formal rooms alike.
Warm neutral tones bridge traditional and contemporary schemes, which is why the Laura works in a new build as readily as a cottage.
Materials and craftsmanship
Solid acacia. A dense hardwood with rich varied grain and a high oil content, giving it genuine resistance to moisture and everyday knocks. Because it is solid throughout rather than veneer over board, the grain continues through the piece, and the edges will not chip or lift the way veneered furniture does over time.
Hand-applied antique distress. Done table by table. Slower and more expensive than a machined finish, and the reason no two Lauras are identical. Natural knots and grain variations are left where they fell rather than sanded away or filled.
Turned balustrade legs. Shaped individually, which gives them a depth of profile that pressed or moulded alternatives never quite match.
Colour and character will vary from the photographs. That variation is the product working as intended rather than a fault, and it is the reason the piece looks collected rather than bought.
At a glance
Care and honest expectations
Dust along the grain with a soft dry cloth, wipe spills promptly rather than letting them sit, and use mats or coasters under anything hot or wet.
A clear furniture wax once or twice a year will keep the finish nourished and deepen the tone. Avoid silicone based polishes and all purpose sprays, which build up on a waxed surface and dull it over time.
Keep it clear of a radiator where you can, since prolonged dry heat is harder on solid timber than anything else in a normal home.
On a hand-distressed finish, small marks tend to blend into the existing character rather than standing out. That is one of the quiet advantages of an antique finish over a flawless one.
