The detail that makes it different

The reclaimed pine is not a design aesthetic. It is a material choice with genuine consequences for how the table looks, feels and ages.

New pine, however well finished, cannot replicate the warm amber and honey tones, the depth of grain, the subtle imperfections that reclaimed timber carries from its previous life. The hand-distressed finish enhances that quality rather than artificially creating it, so the table looks authentically aged rather than manufactured to look old. No two New Hampshire tables are identical.

The trestle base is a structural choice as much as an aesthetic one. Without central legs across a 246cm span, guests can sit and move freely along both sides and at either end, and a dining bench fits along either side without restriction.

The warm tones coordinate naturally with linen, rattan and velvet dining chairs alike. This is a table that works with every seating material rather than demanding a specific match.

Handcrafted from 100% sustainably sourced reclaimed pine. Furniture that gives timber a second life while producing a surface new wood simply cannot replicate.

Why you will love it
  • 100% genuinely reclaimed pine, not new timber distressed to imitate age
  • Trestle base with no central legs, so nobody draws the short straw on legroom
  • 246cm seats six to eight comfortably, and eight to ten at a squeeze
  • Hand-distressed natural finish that celebrates knots and grain rather than hiding them
  • Benches fit along either side without a leg getting in the way
  • Warm amber tones that pair with linen, rattan, velvet and painted seating
  • Marks blend into the existing character rather than standing out against it
  • Sustainable by nature rather than by marketing claim
  • Entirely unique, with grain and knots found on no other table
Will it fit your room?
New Hampshire
L246cm/W101cm/H79cm

Weighing 59.5kg and seating six to eight. Allow at least 60cm of clearance on all four sides for comfortable chair movement, and ideally 90cm on the sides people walk behind. That means a room of roughly 370cm by 220cm as a working minimum. The 79cm height suits chairs with a seat height of around 45cm to 50cm.

Best for

Generous dining rooms, open plan kitchen diners and any household that regularly feeds more than four.

How many will fit. Allow 60cm of table edge per person. Three along each side plus one at each end gives you eight. Benches take the same run and let you squeeze in an extra at a push.

Measure the route as well as the room. At 246cm this is a serious piece to get through a house. Check doorways, hallway width, stairwells and tight turns before ordering, and tell us if anything looks close.

The CharlesTed styling note
Mixing your seating

A trestle base gives you options most tables do not. A bench along one side and chairs along the other reads as considered rather than matched, and it makes a long table feel less formal. Carvers at the ends give the arrangement its full stops.

The palette that flatters it

Warm amber pine wants warm neutrals. Soft white, oatmeal, clay, mushroom and putty all let the timber lead. For depth, olive, sage and soft charcoal on the walls make the amber glow. Avoid cool greys and stark brilliant white, which drain the warmth and push reclaimed pine towards orange.

Lighting

Hang a pendant light so the base sits 75cm to 85cm above the tabletop. On a table this long, two smaller pendants spaced evenly usually beat one large one. Warm bulbs of 2400K to 2700K are essential, as cool light flattens distressed timber completely.

Dressing the table

Keep it low so people can see across. A runner rather than a full cloth, so the timber stays visible, with washed linen napkins, a run of small ceramics and a shallow bowl of foliage. The table is the styling here.

Underfoot

A jute or wool rug warms a hard floor and softens the sound of chairs. Size it so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out, which usually means 60cm beyond the table on every side.

Matches a photograph exactly If new timber

That last row is worth reading twice. If you want every plank the same colour and a table identical to the image on screen, reclaimed timber is the wrong choice. If you want character that cannot be manufactured, it is the only one.

Materials and craftsmanship

100% reclaimed pine. A softwood with an open, expressive grain, which is precisely why it takes patination so well. Decades of previous use leave a depth of colour and a knot structure that no kiln process replicates. Being a softwood it marks more readily than oak, and on a table defined by character that tends to be a feature rather than a problem.

Hand-distressed natural finish. Applied piece by piece rather than machined, which is why the wear never repeats itself the way manufactured distressing does. Knots and grain variation are left where they fell rather than filled or sanded away.

Trestle base in matching reclaimed pine. Built from the same timber as the top, so the base ages alongside the surface rather than diverging from it. It carries the full 246cm span without a central support.

Living with reclaimed pine, honestly

Reclaimed timber behaves like reclaimed timber, which is the entire reason it looks the way it does. Here is what to expect rather than what sounds best.

Knots, grain variation and tonal shifts across the planks
By design
Your table differing visibly from the photographs
Expected
Dusting with a soft dry cloth along the grain
Weekly
Wiping spills before they sit on the surface
Straight away
New marks from daily family use
Part of it
Colour deepening gently with light and age
Over years

Use mats and coasters under anything hot or wet. Avoid silicone polishes and all purpose sprays. Keep the table clear of a radiator where you can, since prolonged dry heat is harder on solid timber than anything else in a normal home, and out of prolonged direct sunlight, which will lighten the surface unevenly if one half sits in the sun all day.

Questions, answered
How many people does it seat?
Six to eight comfortably. Allow 60cm of table edge per person. Three along each side plus one at each end gives you eight, and benches will let you fit another at a push.
Will my table look exactly like the photographs?
No, and that is the nature of reclaimed timber. Grain, knots and tonal variation differ from piece to piece, so yours will be recognisably the New Hampshire but individual in its detail. Ask us on live chat if you would like photographs of current stock before ordering.
Is the wood genuinely reclaimed?
Yes, 100% reclaimed pine. Not new timber distressed to imitate age. The difference shows in the irregularity of the grain and patination, which manufactured wear never quite achieves.
What is a trestle base and why does it matter?
The table is supported at each end rather than on four corner legs. Across a 246cm span that means nobody sits with a leg between their knees, chairs slide fully underneath, and a bench fits along either side without obstruction.
What size room do I need?
Allow at least 60cm of clearance on all sides for chair movement, and ideally 90cm where people walk behind seated guests. That works out at roughly 370cm by 220cm as a practical minimum.
What chairs work with it?
Almost anything. The warm amber tones sit comfortably with linen slipcovers, rattan, velvet, painted and solid timber. Look for a seat height of around 45cm to 50cm against the 79cm table height. Browse our dining chairs.
Does it need assembly?
Please check the delivery details shown at checkout for this item. At 59.5kg it is a two person lift regardless, so have help available on the day. Get in touch if you need it confirmed before ordering.
Will it mark easily?
Pine is a softwood, so it marks more readily than oak. On a table already defined by knots and patination, everyday marks tend to blend into the character rather than stand out. If you want a pristine surface that stays pristine, reclaimed pine is not the right choice.
How do I care for it?
Dust along the grain with a soft dry cloth and wipe spills promptly. Use mats and coasters under hot or wet items. Avoid silicone polishes and all purpose sprays.
Can I use a bench with it?
Yes, and it is one of the best reasons to choose a trestle table. A bench slides fully under the top along either side because there is no corner leg in the way.
What does delivery involve?
Allow 10 to 14 days. Delivery is £49.00 by our specialist furniture courier, who will contact you to arrange a time. Measure doorways, stairwells and tight turns beforehand. Full details on our delivery page.
What if it is not right for the room?
Our returns process is straightforward and we will arrange the collection. Given the size of this piece, we would always rather help you check measurements before you order than after.
Complete the look
Linen slipcovers against reclaimed timber is the pairing our stylists reach for first. Soft against textured, every time.
Two smaller pendants spaced along a 246cm table usually beat one large one. Hang the base 75cm to 85cm above the top.
Warms a hard floor and quietens chair movement. Size it 60cm beyond the table on every side so chairs stay on when pulled out.
A run of storage along the wall takes the serving load off the table and gives the room its second horizontal.
Dark glazed stoneware anchors all that warm amber. Keep centrepieces low so people can see across the table.
Napkins, crockery and serveware in the same natural register finish the table without competing with the timber.
One in the corner of a dining room is the fastest route to the relaxed farmhouse feeling this table already suggests.
