<p class="p"><strong>The brass.</strong> A dry lint-free cloth. Never use brass polish or abrasive cleaner, which lifts the hand-rubbed finish back to bright metal in patches. If a mark needs more, a barely damp cloth followed immediately by a dry one.</p>
<p class="p"><strong>The shades.</strong> A soft dry brush, a lint roller or a hairdryer on the cool setting. Never water or spray on a fabric shade, as it marks permanently. Two white shades show dust sooner than one, so a monthly once-over is worth the minute it takes.</p>
<p class="p"><strong>The patina.</strong> Hand-rubbed brass darkens gently with time and handling. We consider that an improvement. If you want it to stay exactly as it arrived, this is the wrong finish.</p>
