A sideboard earns its place twice over: once for what it holds, and once for what it does to the room. The Abingdon does both at a scale most sideboards never reach. At 200cm long it fills a wall properly, giving a dining room, hallway or living space the long horizontal line that makes everything above it — art, lamps, sculpture — look considered rather than scattered. Yet it is only 44cm deep, so it delivers all of that presence without pushing into the room or narrowing a walkway. Crafted from elm with an open, softly limed grain and finished with aged ring pulls, it arrives fully assembled — unpacked, positioned and in use the same day.

The proportions do the work. Most sideboards land somewhere near 120cm and sit low; the Abingdon runs to 200cm and stands 88cm tall, which puts the top at a genuinely usable working height and gives leaning artwork the wall space it needs to sit properly rather than crowding the ceiling line. The storage is arranged for real life: three generous drawers down the centre for linen, cutlery, candles and the everyday clutter that has nowhere else to go, flanked by two double-door cupboards deep enough for serveware, glassware or the things you would rather not look at. Elm is the other reason to choose it — a timber with a looser, more expressive grain than oak, warmer in tone and full of movement, which keeps a piece of this size from reading as a solid block of furniture. And because it arrives assembled, there is no flat-pack compromise in the joinery.
